Help
Everything in Seaglass stays on your phone, so a few things work a little differently from apps with an account.
Backup and restore
Seaglass has no account, so your history lives only on your phone until you back it up.
Export a backup file
- Go to Settings → Export or import.
- Optionally turn on Protect with a passcode. Without the passcode, nobody can open the file, including us, so write it down: it can’t be recovered.
- Tap Export file and choose where to keep it: Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, AirDrop, or an email to yourself.
The file has your trackers, past runs, journal and preferences (reminders, currency, appearance and so on). It doesn’t include app lock, which belongs to each phone, or your purchase, which comes back from the store.
Restore from a file
- Go to Settings → Export or import and tap Import a file.
- Pick the file. If it has a passcode, enter it.
- Check what’s in it, then choose:
- Merge with this phone keeps both. Where both have the same thing, the newer edit wins.
- Replace everything swaps what’s on this phone for the file. This can’t be undone.
iCloud and Google Drive
Automatic backup to your own iCloud or Google Drive is coming soon, under Settings → Backup and sync. Until then, export a file.
Your phone’s own backup
Seaglass’s data is also in your phone’s regular device backup (iCloud Backup on iPhone, Google’s backup on Android) if you have that on. It’s separate from anything you set in Seaglass. See the privacy policy.
Moving to a new phone
With a backup file (any phone, iPhone and Android)
- On the old phone, export a backup file and put it somewhere the new phone can reach: AirDrop, iCloud Drive, Google Drive or email.
- Install Seaglass on the new phone and go to Settings → Export or import → Import a file.
- Choose Replace everything to bring it all over as it was.
This works between iPhone and Android, too.
With your phone’s backup
If you set up the new phone from an iCloud or Google backup of the old one, Seaglass’s data usually comes with it. If it doesn’t, use a backup file.
Afterwards
- The unlock: go to Settings → Seaglass Unlimited → Restore purchase, signed in to the same Apple or Google account. A purchase doesn’t move between iPhone and Android.
- App lock stays off on a new phone. Turn it on again in Settings.
- Reminders come over with a backup file. You may need to allow notifications for Seaglass again on the new phone.
Redeeming a code
Free unlock codes are App Store offer codes or Google Play promo codes. Redeeming one is like buying the unlock for free: there’s still no account with us.
- From an invite link: open it on your phone. It takes you to the App Store or Google Play with the code filled in, or shows you the code to type in along with both stores’ links.
- In the app: go to Settings → Seaglass Unlimited → Redeem a code and type it in.
- In the store: on Android, go to play.google.com/redeem or the Play Store’s Payments & subscriptions → Redeem code. On iPhone, open the App Store, tap your photo, then Redeem Gift Card or Code (the wording varies a little between iOS versions).
Then open Seaglass. It checks with the store when it opens and when you come back to it, so the unlock appears on its own. If it doesn’t, tap Restore purchase. Codes from Google Play work once each, so each person needs their own.
App lock
App lock asks for your Face ID, fingerprint or phone passcode when Seaglass opens, so your days stay private on a shared or borrowed phone.
- Turn it on in Settings → Lock with Face ID (or Touch ID, Fingerprint, Passcode or Screen lock, depending on your phone).
- Your phone needs a passcode or screen lock first.
- It asks again after Seaglass has been in the background for 30 seconds, and hides the app’s screen in the app switcher.
- If Face ID or your fingerprint doesn’t work, your phone’s passcode does. There’s no separate Seaglass password to forget.
Reminders
Go to Settings → Reminders.
- Daily check-in: once a day, at the time you pick.
- Milestone days: when you reach a new piece of sea glass.
- Say what I’m quitting: off by default, so notifications never say what you’re tracking and nothing private shows on your lock screen.
Reminders are scheduled on your phone; nothing is sent from a server. If they don’t arrive, check that notifications are allowed for Seaglass in your phone’s Settings. The Reminders screen has a button that takes you there.
